"Avram Iancu" Cluj International Airport, an autonomous authority under the Cluj County Council, inaugurated the extension of the passenger departures terminal, on the north side, a project of RON 412 million (€82.8 million), developed with European funds, state budget and own funds.

The project included the expansion of the departures terminal by approximately 7,200 square meters, the creation of flows for Schengen and Non-Schengen destinations, 3 new security flows, equipped with security control equipment and the expansion of the aircraft parking platform by approximately 9,000 square meters.

Thus, Cluj airport has 7 Schengen boarding gates and respectively 4 Non-Schengen boarding gates, and with the completion of the project, the processing capacity of the airport terminals increases to 4.5 million passengers/year. By completing this objective, Cluj International Airport benefits from the largest spaces in the Schengen and Non-Schengen areas, thus ranking first in the top regional airports in Romania, with an area of approximately 12,000 sqm, according to a press release sent from Cluj-Napoca airport.

The project for the expansion of the departures passenger terminal also took into account green energy, by installing photovoltaic panels that were placed both on the terrace of the terminal and on the terrace of the existing power plant. This system of photovoltaic panels was created to improve the efficiency of the use of electricity, which aims to protect the environment by using non-polluting energy sources.

Cluj-Napoca Airport is one of the local airports that have made constant investments in recent years in development. Last year, the airport completed an investment of 84 million lei (17 million euros - half of European funds) in the development of a new taxiway for airplanes, parallel to the runway. Moreover, in 2022 he accessed two European projects of 44 million lei for the purchase of new safety and security equipment, which will contribute to reducing the waiting time for the security control.

The "Avram Iancu" international airport in Cluj-Napoca, the second largest airport in the country and the air gateway of Transylvania, ended last year with a traffic of 3.24 million passengers, an increase of 23% compared to the year previously.
