Romanian inflation sticks close to 10% in December 2025

Romania's annual inflation rate decreased to 9.69% in December from 9.76% in November, according to data published by the National Institute of Statistics (INS).

Services prices rose by 11%, non-food goods by 10.48%, and food products by 7.75%.

The consumer price index for December 2025 compared to November 2025 was 100.22%, the INS reported. The average rate of consumer price changes over the last 12 months (January 2025 - December 2025) compared to the previous 12 months was 7.3%.

The harmonised index of consumer prices for December 2025 compared to November 2025 was 100.23%. The annual inflation rate calculated based on the harmonised index was 8.6%, while the average rate over the last 12 months was 6.8%.

The National Bank of Romania (BNR) revised upward its inflation forecast for the end of 2025 to 9.6% from 8.8% previously. The central bank anticipates inflation will reach 3.7% by the end of 2026.
