Romania's usable gas production in January 2025 was 661,700 tonnes of oil equivalent (toe), a decrease of 300 toe compared to the same period last year, according to data compiled by the National Institute of Statistics (INS).

At the same time, imports increased by 46.5% (plus 50,200 toe) compared to January 2024, reaching 158,100 toe.

According to estimates from the National Commission for Strategy and Prognosis (CNSP), Romania's gas production is expected to increase at an average annual rate of 1.7% until 2027.

Thus, in the latest Energy Balance Forecast, production for 2025 was estimated at 7.79 million toe (up 1.5%), for 2026 at 7.907 million toe (up 1.5%), and for 2027 at 8.176 million toe (up 3.4%).

Regarding imports, a downward trend is anticipated, with a more pronounced reduction by 2027 (down 6%), in line with the production increase through the commissioning of new capacities, while also considering the maintenance of transit to external markets.

Looking forward, CNSP estimates imports of 2.211 million toe (-7.6%) for 2025, and 2.150 million toe (-2.7%) for 2026.
