Clean Recycle, one of the leading players in the local packaging responsibility transfer market (OIREP), recorded a turnover of €10 million in 2024, marking an 11% increase for non-SGR materials compared to the previous year, and managed 125,000 tons of packaging waste for its portfolio of over 800 companies. For 2025, the company estimates an 8% increase in the number of clients and a 10% increase in the quantity of packaging waste collected.

Clean Recycle supports companies in industries such as FMCG, pharmaceuticals, and retail in meeting their legal obligations regarding packaging waste management, offering integrated solutions for waste collection, recycling, and reporting. The company handles packaging made from a wide range of materials, including glass, paper, cardboard, PET, aluminum, and wood.

Of the total waste volume managed in 2024 by Clean Recycle, 75,000 tons were recycled, while 6,000 tons were recovered through incineration.

Romania lags behind Europe in recycling

According to Eurostat data for 2022, only 39.9% of Romania's packaging waste was recycled, placing the country second to last in the European Union. In comparison, Belgium achieves a recycling rate of 80%, Estonia 73%, and Denmark 64.9%, according to data analyzed by Clean Recycle.

“I believe we are on the right track, even though, by comparison, more developed countries have a significant lead. These states started awareness campaigns and the development of recycling infrastructure decades ago. In Romania, we are still at the beginning, and changing social behaviors takes time. It is essential to increase the frequency of awareness campaigns and develop infrastructure capable of supporting the population's efforts,” says Cosmin Monda, founder and CEO of Clean Recycle.

From January 1, the national target for overall packaging waste recovery has increased from 65% to 70%, while the recycling target has risen from 60% to 65%.

Clean Recycle is one of the top 5 players in the local market for the transfer of responsibility regarding packaging waste (OIREP), taking over the obligation of reporting the collection and recovery of packaging and packaging waste placed on the market by producers and importers. Clean Recycle manages a portfolio of over 800 companies that produce and market packaging waste across Romania, operating in sectors such as FMCG and retail, agribusiness, automotive, distribution, industrial production, pharmaceuticals and more.
