Romanians' interest in laser dental interventions has increased 3 times in recent years

Business Forum
Romanians are becoming more and more interested in laser dental interventions, instead of the classic ones, performed with a scalpel, curettes and antibacterial substances, their interest in procedures with modern technology being 3 times higher in 2023-2024 compared to 2022, it shows data from Deos Dental, one of the first clinics on the market to use laser technology. The demand for these procedures with innovative tools has grown rapidly in recent years and will double in 2024 compared to the previous year, to avoid pain, solve dental problems faster and recover in the shortest possible time. The most sought-after laser procedure is the 24-hour fixed teeth procedure, which achieves a full, new set of teeth in as little as one day.

"Overwhelmingly, over 90%, Romanians are afraid of the dentist and the pain that can occur during dental procedures. Eight out of 10 patients who arrive at Deos Dental offices for laser treatments report unpleasant or even traumatic experiences from previous dental procedures, in which classic methods of intervention were used.

But there should be no more pain in the dental office, neither when treating a simple caries, nor in more complex cases, especially since we currently have at hand innovative technology, the same that is also used abroad, in the USA or Japan. By using laser technology, the patient will have two great benefits that he can never have through classical treatment methods, namely biostimulation and the bactericidal effect. Romanians prefer laser dental treatments because they no longer have anything to fear from pain and thus are more relaxed and more convinced to go to the dentist. Fear of the dentist is still one of the main reasons why Romanians avoid treating dental problems, but laser technology is changing the perception of Romanians for the better and we will see improvements in oral health at the country level," declares Laurențiu Dorobanțu, CEO and co-founder of Deos Dental premium laser clinics.

Laser vs scalpel: the most common dental interventions with innovative technology

In recent years, laser technology treatments are preferred by both adults and children, in most cases from surgery for extractions or implants to more simple procedures such as removing cavities or whitening teeth. The laser is a beam of light that effectively and painlessly solves any medical problem, from a simple cavity, to dental implants, treatment of periodontal disease and other complex surgical interventions.

Most Romanians end up in the office when dental problems are acute, and 10% for prevention or aesthetic reasons. Thus, 6 out of 10 patients come for complex interventions, namely laser-assisted dental implants and laser treatment of periodontitis, which are solved painlessly with the most modern method called Deos Laser Smile, shows the data of the Deos Dental clinic. Root canals and cavity cleanings are also among the most sought-after procedures.

According to official statistics, 8 out of 10 Romanians over the age of 35 have periodontal disease in an early or more advanced form, which eventually leads to tooth loss. Because of this, the number of toothless people who arrive at the office increases exponentially from year to year. Thus, according to Deos Dental, the most sought-after intervention in the last year, and the most complex one, is the fixed teeth procedure in 24 hours, to complete and rehabilitate the dentition in a single day.

The number of requests for this procedure has doubled in the last year, with Romanians spending between 17,000 and €25,000 to have new teeth in a day at most. The demand is constantly increasing, especially among patients between 45 and 50 years old, Deos Dental being the only dental clinic in Romania where the fixed teeth procedure in 24 hours is done with laser technology.

"Laser procedures are preferred by Romanians, including for children, both for avoiding pain and faster recovery, as well as for the similar cost compared to classic procedures, with a scalpel and anesthesia. Prices for a laser procedure start from 597 lei and reach thousands or tens of thousands of euros in the case of complex interventions. In our clinic, we totally use laser technology, in all procedures, to solve dental problems or beautify the teeth of Romanians. We are among the first clinics to replace the scalpel with the laser, having unique protocols on laser surgery and periodontal treatment. In Romania, laser technology is not yet used to its full capacity in dentistry, but now the market has started to recognize it. With this innovative method, the results are much better than with classic methods, but it requires study from dentists and attention in using the laser. Patients from the country and Romanians from the diaspora appreciate very much when it is used in dental interventions," explains Laurențiu Dorobanțu.

Thus, the dental market in Romania is in a constant evolution, and the number of Romanians who go to the dentist is increasing, being more and more aware of the fact that the health of the teeth generates other health problems and influences their general condition, conclude the specialists of the premium clinic Deos Dental laser.
