Strabag Romania is proud to announce its recent ISO 19650 certification for implementing the Building Information Modeling (BIM) methodology in its projects. This certification marks a major milestone, positioning Strabag as a leader in the digital transformation of the Romanian construction sector, and underscores the company's commitment to efficiency, innovation and sustainability.

The construction industry in Romania has long-faced challenges such as fragmented project execution, inefficient resource management, and insufficient investment in innovation. According to industry experts, these issues have contributed to the sector's lag in productivity compared to other industries. Strabag's adoption of BIM processes, confirmed by this ISO certification, represents a decisive step toward addressing these challenges.

”The ISO certification validates our efforts to implement cutting-edge digital solutions that transform traditional construction processes into a more integrated and efficient approach,” said Cătălin Andrei, Head of BIM at Strabag Romania. ”By adopting BIM, we aim to reduce inefficiencies and set new standards for collaboration and project delivery across the Romanian construction industry.”

A differentiator in the market

BIM technology helps to solve many of the industry's issues by offering a collaborative and integrated approach to construction projects. BIM digitally links all those involved in the construction process via a comprehensive, shared three-dimensional model from which all relevant project data (deadlines, costs, quantities, etc.) can be retrieved in all project phases.

However, its full potential can only be realised with supportive strategies from both public and private clients, fostering a holistic project environment. Strabag's ISO certification for BIM demonstrates its leadership and readiness to operate within this collaborative framework, setting a precedent for other industry players in Romania.

Supporting the national BIM roadmap

Strabag's achievement aligns closely with Romania's national initiative to integrate BIM technology into publicly funded construction projects. Since 2022 the Romanian government approved a Memorandum outlining a BIM implementation roadmap as part of the National Recovery and Resilience Plan, which aims to modernise the construction sector by introducing digital and sustainable construction practices.

As part of this initiative, Strabag's ISO certification further reinforces its commitment to not only comply with but also lead the implementation of BIM in Romania. The company's strategic approach integrates BIM across all project stages - from design to execution and operation-ensuring that information management, collaboration, and digital innovation are embedded into every aspect of construction.

Achieving ISO certification also reflects Strabag's focus on collaborative processes as outlined in the ISO 19650 series. These standards emphasise the need for integrated project teams, where designers, contractors, and subcontractors work together within a unified digital environment. Strabag's implementation of BIM aligns with these principles, ensuring transparent and efficient information management across the project lifecycle.

“This certification is not just about technology; it's about fostering a collaborative and innovative culture within the construction sector,” added Lidia Buduroi, Head of Quality and Sustainability Manager at Strabag Romania. “By combining BIM with collaborative contracts and integrated teams, we are building a foundation for more efficient, sustainable, and resilient construction projects in Romania.”
