The lighting solutions market is booming in 2025, fueled by the development of new constructions, the wave of public rehabilitation financed through the PNRR, and the greater interest of companies in optimizing energy consumption. In this context, Solar Art - Overall Company, one of the most dynamic companies in the field in Romania, estimates a peak year for the industry, with a record amount of money to be collected, considering public and private investments in efficient solutions to reduce electricity costs.
“The evolution of new construction influences our activity. We work a lot for general contractors who have such new constructions or rehabilitations under contract. From our point of view, it is a good time for the lighting solutions market, given that a lot is being built, whether built from scratch or buildings are being rehabilitated through PNRR funds. Public investments in modernization have been announced - the state is rehabilitating a lot of buildings, including hospitals and schools, but also in public lighting, which requires solutions with the lowest possible energy consumption. Of course, some areas are suffering, such as automotive where it is not known what will happen to electric cars, but I am optimistic about other sectors. With the increase in energy prices, there is a great need for modern lighting solutions that reduce consumption, especially in the production field where there is a high consumption of electricity. Given the public projects and the increased interest from the private sector, there is a record amount of money to be collected in the market, and companies in the field that can support demand, deliver modern lighting systems quickly and at attractive prices, will have a competitive advantage," says Adelin Vaicar, founder of Solar Art - Overall Company, one of the largest lighting solutions companies with projects throughout the country.
At the public level, the last session of the Public Lighting Program 2024, which concluded on January 15, 2025, had a budget of RON 500 million (€100 million) for both the modernization and the completion and expansion of public lighting with LED lighting fixtures with economic consumption, in communes, cities, and municipalities. Recently, the Brașov City Hall announced that it will replace the lighting fixtures on 400 streets with LED lighting systems, through a financing of €4.4 million. Also, on the streets of Bucharest, the modernization of lighting with LED technology continues, which can bring a reduction in consumption of up to 55%, according to the announcements made by the General City Hall.
Rising energy prices favor the lighting solutions market
In order to consistently attract significant projects, Solar Art - Overall Company, with activity in the profile market for over 15 years, relies on direct partnerships with manufacturers in Europe, which ensures a fast delivery capacity, of no more than one week, and lower prices. At the same time, the company carries out a lighting audit for each client, a unique service on the market, through which it analyzes in detail the existing lighting, the infrastructure and specific requirements of the space, the location of the lighting fixtures and the level of consumption, in order to identify whether a replacement of the systems is needed and which solutions are suitable for the respective space, to obtain a reduction in energy consumption.
Thus, for 2025, Solar Art - Overall Company estimates a 50% increase in demand for lighting solutions compared to the previous year, mainly from general contractor companies, with new construction projects, but also modernization projects. The increased demand also comes against the backdrop of rising energy prices, leading companies to invest in lighting solutions that reduce consumption by up to 30%-50%.
"The rising cost of electricity is causing both general contractors building apartment buildings or other residential buildings, as well as companies in various fields, to consider using sustainable lighting systems or replacing existing systems with more efficient ones. In factories, logistics spaces or offices, reducing electricity consumption by even 1-3% can mean considerable savings. We see a growing interest in efficient solutions, from presence sensors and adaptive lighting, to lighting fixtures with a high CRI (color rendering index), which ensure superior light quality. And through a lighting audit we can identify the most suitable options for companies," explains Adelin Vaicar.
Trends of the year: smart lighting and digital control
In 2025, the lighting solutions market will go beyond simple energy efficiency. Among the most sought-after technologies are high CRI (color rendering index) lighting – artificial light that almost perfectly imitates natural light and reduces visual fatigue, presence sensors – optimize consumption, reducing energy waste, intelligent light control – systems that allow automatic adjustment of light intensity according to user needs, and lighting with solutions that imitate the sky, clouds and create a relaxing atmosphere in offices and hospitals.
New lighting technology in buildings brings a better quality of light, something that has not been emphasized until now. Thus, lighting fixtures with a CRI of over 95% have appeared, very close to the quality of natural light, without that milky light that distorts colors and tires the eyes.
Switching to energy-efficient lighting is no longer a choice, but an economic necessity. Companies that ignore this trend risk paying huge energy bills and losing ground to the competition. From this point of view, Solar Art - Overall Company estimates a growing orientation of companies towards lighting solutions that help them save, a trend that is also found in public lighting projects.
