Romanian car production falls in early 2025

Romania's automotive industry experienced a production decrease in the first months of 2025, even as the second-hand car market continues to grow, according to data from the Romanian Association of Automobile Manufacturers (ACAROM).

In February 2025, car production reached 45,797 units, a 5.33% decrease compared to February 2024.

The Dacia plant in Mioveni made 26,417 units, while the Ford Otosan plant in Craiova produced 19,380 units in February 2025. In total, for the first two months of 2025, automobile manufacturing reached 85,260 units, a 14% decrease compared to the same period in 2024.

On the other hand, new car registrations in Romania increased in February 2025 by 4.51% compared to February 2024, reaching a volume of 11,850 units.

However, overall for the first two months of 2025, the volume of new car registrations amounted to 23,770 units, a decrease of 1.25% compared to the first two months of 2024.

Interestingly, second-hand car registrations recorded a significant increase.

In February 2025, their volume reached 33,307 units, a 13.05% increase compared to February 2024. For the first two months of 2025, second-hand car registrations reached a value of 60,844 units, a 7.42% increase compared to the same period in 2024.

In the ranking of new car registrations for the January-February 2025 period, Dacia leads with 7,542 units, followed by Toyota with 1,964 units and Skoda with 1,770 units.
