Business Forum
Carrefour Romania officially inaugurates the first hypermarket in Bacău, within the Supernova shopping center. As a result of the integration of large-format Cora stores into the Carrefour universe, the retailer's hypermarket network reaches 57 stores open nationwide, one of which has been remodeled and rebranded in the city of Bacău. From today, customers can enjoy the full experience of the Carrefour universe when they go shopping. The hypermarket is the first format with which Carrefour launched on the Romanian market, in 2001, and plays a significant role, offering the most varied range of products, addressing all categories of customers. Network expansion is part of the company's omnichannel strategy.

Located in the premises of the Supernova shopping center, 2-4, str. Milcov 2A, the hypermarket is open from Monday to Sunday, between 7:00 a.m. and 10:00 p.m. It has a sales area of 6,000 square meters and supports the development of the local community through 170 jobs.

"We are happy to announce the inauguration of the first Carrefour hypermarket in Bacău and, at the same time, the first hypermarket remodeled according to the standards of the format that consecrated us, as a result of the takeover of Cora's operations in Romania. Next, we focus our resources on consolidation, with an emphasis on the merger of operations and teams, part of the national integration plan, and we are happy to inaugurate the hypermarket in Bacău under the Carrefour brand and with the entire universe of services and quality products for our customers". said Crinu Aldea, Integration Project Director, Carrefour Romania.

The new store whets the appetites of Bacău with fresh products from local producers and the most representative products from the retailer's portfolio

Moreover, customers have access to an extensive range of Romanian wines from the Deschidem Vinul Românesc program, created by Carrefour to support Romanian producers from all wine regions of the country. Wines such as 'Pandora Rose' and 'Sauvignon Blanc' can be discovered by lovers of local tastes in the Wine from Your Region category. Alongside them, there are available wines entrusted only to Carrefour shelves through the Exclusive selection (such as "Tectonic" or Domenii Cotnari limited edition, "Fetească Neagră Rose" and "Grasă de Cotnari"), as well as gourmet wines appreciated by specialists and sought after by connoisseurs, from the Premium range.

In addition, the store also includes Carrefour's own brand products in its offer: affordable (Simpl), medium (Carrefour Classic or Essential) and premium ranges (Drag de România, Carrefour Quality Filiera, Carrefour Bio, Carrefour Selection). For a complete shopping experience, customers can find (inter)national brand products and brands developed in partnership with 260 Romanian producers on the Carrefour shelves.
Beyond the products from the Carrefour universe, the store's offer also includes products from the portfolio of the former Cora store, appreciated by customers for their exceptional quality. An example would be the traditional butcher's shop where customers can purchase meat products, from pork and beef, freshly sliced, from carcasses of Romanian origin. At the same time, customers have at their disposal a variety of local products, prepared or smoked.
As far as non-food products are concerned, the offer includes items from the cooking world (household appliances, crockery), hygiene or home or garden products, cosmetics, but also toys, books or supplies.
In addition to the established services available in Carrefour hypermarkets (PayPoint, payment of invoices or vignettes), customers can also benefit from options such as the BT Direct shopping card, the consumer finance division of Banca Transilvania, through which they benefit from 5% cashback on the value of all purchases made through full payment in store and online, on Carrefour.ro.

An omnichannel shopping experience

In line with its omnichannel vision, Carrefour continues its mission to become the number one choice for customers, by developing the national network of stores in all formats: Hiper, for the complete experience within the weekly shopping sessions, Express, for the speed and personal character of a convenience store, Market, located at the intersection of the first two formats, with an emphasis on freshness, speed and proximity, and Supeco, the cash & carry discount format, intended for both private and corporate customers.

The Act for Good Carrefour universe

As part of the remodeling process, Carrefour extends the benefits from the Act for Good program to the level of the new hyper in Bacău. Available in the Carrefour app, customers can accumulate loyalty points that can be used as currency to benefit from discounts, various experiences and the opportunity to support the community through good deeds.

Carrefour continues to modernize stores across the country, using the advantages of technology to make the shopping experience as easy as possible. Beyond the 100% self checkouts, which have a simple and intuitive scanning and payment system for everyone, customers benefit from the Scan & Pay option in the Carrefour application. With it, they can scan and pay for the products as they add them to the shopping cart, and the experience becomes simple and fast.

Moreover, from June 6, customers will be able to access the products from the physical store not only through the carrefour.ro application and website, but also through the partner platforms BRINGO, Glovo and Tazz. BRINGO, the first Romanian personal shopping platform that makes deliveries from 90 minutes to 30 or even, in record time, in 15 minutes, offers a universe with multiple options, from which customers can choose how they prefer to take possession of their purchases, with direct home delivery or ready-made in the hypermarket for personal pick-up, through the Click & Collect option.

At the same time, from the Hypermarket section of the Glovo application, customers can select the desired products from the Carrefour Bacău store, and Glovo will deliver them to the indicated address in less than 60 minutes. Moreover, from the Supermarket section of the Tazz app, customers can select the products they want from the hypermarket and Tazz will deliver them to the given address in less than 60 minutes.

Care for the environment and community

Carrefour brings closer to the grocers the entire PET, aluminum and glass packaging recycling infrastructure within the Guarantee-Return System, the largest selective collection program in the country. The system translates into a mechanism for rewarding good done out of respect for the environment. For each drink with the "Package with Guarantee" logo purchased, customers will pay a guarantee of RON 0.50 which they will be able to recover later physically, at the cash registers, or digitally, by scanning the vouchers with the Carrefour application recycling released by collection equipment.

Moreover, as a permanent system, customers who bring containers of used oil to the new store benefit from rewards, according to a very simple mechanism: for every 4 liters of used oil, Carrefour offers customers 1 liter of fresh oil in exchange.

450 stores

With the acquisition of the operations of Romania Hypermarche SA, Carrefour reaches approximately 450 stores, in 113 cities in the country and reaches the top three players on the retail market in Romania, being a certified top employer (2023, 2024) for over 17,000 employees.

In 2022, Carrefour Romania was an important contributor to supporting the economy, with over RON 681 million in taxes brought to the state budget. Over 93% of Carrefour's suppliers last year came from Romania, and now the retailer continues to permanently expand its network of local and ultra-local producers, totaling over 1,300 partnerships, for the supply of fresh products.

The company supports the communities in which it operates through long-term national programs and initiatives, with a positive impact on society: Cooperativa Agricola Vărăști, the first of its kind founded by a retailer in Romania, Deschidem Vinul Românesc, Creștem România BIO, Grădina Noastra and Poftim Brânză Românească or Payment with PET. The Act For Good platform transforms shopping into a personalized experience with social impact. Each shopping session can bring users loyalty points, through which they can do good deeds, but also benefit from discounts and personalized offers.

Carrefour Romania operates in Romania through five legal entities: Carrefour S.A., Artima S.A., Columbus Operational SRL, Supeco Investment SRL and, from November 2023, Romania Hypermarche S.A.
