Survey APSAP: 60% of employees in Romania do not feel appreciated by their employers

Most employees in Romania (60%) do not feel appreciated by their employers, whether they work for the state or the private sector, and more than half of them say that they do not feel motivated by the organization they belong to surpass themselves from a professional point of view, show the results of a survey conducted by the APSAP Training Center, the largest center for professional training courses in the country.

Recently, the APSAP Training Center carried out a complex study, to which more than 2,000 employees from Romania, participants in authorized training courses in the field of work, responded. The purpose of this study was to have a clear understanding of the profile of the Romanian employee, thus making a comparison between the private and the public sector.

"In most cases, Romanian employees not only do not feel appreciated by their employers, but 55% of them do not even feel motivated by the companies they work for, and many have major fears related to their work activity. But what is even more interesting is the fact that 63% of state employees feel less appreciated by their employer than those who work in the private sector. At the same time, employees in public institutions do not even feel motivated by their employer to surpass themselves professionally. This is one of the reasons why, along with the desire to stand out, more and more Romanians enroll in training courses, more and more state employees want to change their professional field and work in the private sector," declares Bogdan-Costin Fârşirotu, president of the APSAP Training Center and founder of the platform www.cursuri-functionari.ro.

When asked how motivated they are to improve themselves professionally, Romanians who work in the private sector feel overall more motivated than those who work in the state. More precisely, 45% of private sector employees feel "extremely motivated" versus 37% in the state.

What fears do Romanian employees have?

The biggest fear of employees in both the public and private sectors is not having time for their personal lives. Despite this, over 27% of respondents would choose a demanding job but with motivating salary benefits.

In second place is the fear of making major mistakes or failing in important projects, and in third place is the fear of being overworked and not meeting personal demands.

What motivates Romanian employees

Both in the private and in the public sector, the most employees feel motivated by the flexibility of the schedule and the balance between personal life, respectively 48% of people feel motivated by this and in the public sector 29%. In second place is the need for recognition and appreciation from colleagues and management. Here we find an equal percentage, namely 30%, for both the private and the public sector.

Which regions earn the best in Romania

The survey conducted by the APSAP Training Center also shows that the region with the highest percentage of people earning over 12,000 lei is represented by Bucharest-Ilfov, respectively 9%. Also, this region also records the most earnings between 10,000-12,000 lei, respectively 5%, along with the Center region (Alba, Brașov, Covasna, Harghita, Mureș and Sibiu).

Regarding the income range 7,500-10,000 lei, also in the Bucharest-Ilfov region but also in the South-West Oltenia region (Dolj, Gorj, Mehedinți, Olt and Vâlcea).

What barriers did the respondents encounter in the hiring process

In the public sector, the majority of respondents say they have a master's degree, representing 51% compared to 36% in the private sector. At the same time, in the private sector, most people have bachelor's degrees, with a percentage of 49%, compared to 39% in the public sector. This aspect is not negative, as the private sector employs more young people than the public sector. Thus, young people not only accumulate work experience, but also feel appreciated and valued.

When asked about barriers to employment, the largest percentage of respondents in both the public and private sectors indicated that the main barrier was that the salary benefits offered were below their expectations. Thus, in the public sector, more than 21% of respondents mentioned this problem, compared to less than 14% in the private sector.

Founded in 2014, the non-governmental organization APSAP Training Center has become one of the most trusted organizations providing training programs for the public and private sectors in Romania.
