The project aims to modernize the medium and low voltage electricity networks in Geoagiu, Geoagiu Băi, Aurel Vlaicu, Bozeș, Cigmău, Homorod, Mermezeu-Văleni, Renghet, Poienari and Văleni. In total, 37 km of medium voltage networks and 86 km of low voltage networks will be modernized. At the same time, 18 transformer substations and 1,700 electrical connections will be modernized.
"In order to increase the resilience of the network in the Geoagiu area, in Hunedoara County, we are looping a part of it so that, in the event of a failure, we can redirect the energy flow and ensure the continuity of the electricity distribution service. We are also placing underground a portion of the medium voltage network in the area to be less exposed to bad weather and, for the same purpose, we will also modernize existing transformer substations and install new ones, in concrete envelope. The low voltage network in the area will also be modernized, for the benefit of the community. After the completion of the works, the inhabitants of the area and tourists will be able to enjoy the benefits of a much-improved electricity distribution service," said Mihai Vangu, Director of Rețele Electrice Banat.
The medium voltage lines targeted in this project will be looped with 20 kV cables, to improve the reliability of the network, allowing the continuous supply of consumers even in the event of a failure on a segment of the line, by redirecting the energy flow through an alternative route. Also, part of the 20kV overhead medium voltage line Orastie Balomir will be placed underground, and 18 existing transformer substations that will be modernized, as well as 4 new transformer substations, both in concrete envelope and overhead, will be connected to it.
The low voltage (LV) network will be modernized by installing insulated twisted conductors and replacing damaged poles.
The works aim to improve the quality of the electricity distribution service for customers in the Geoagiu area, with a direct influence on network losses, as well as on individual consumption at the level of homes, generating a lower local carbon dioxide footprint.
The project has a total value of RON 48.6 million, of which the maximum value insured from the Modernization Fund is RON 36.9 million.
The deadline for submitting bids is September 24, 2024, and the works will last 32 months from the conclusion of the contract.
The Rețele Electrice companies operate networks with a total length of about 134,000 kilometers in three important areas of the country: Muntenia Sud (including Bucharest), Banat and Dobrogea, covering a third of the local distribution market, and are developing an investment program to improve the quality of services, safety and performance of the networks and the local implementation of the environmental standards of the PPC group. The electrical networks operated by the three Rețele Electrice companies number 289 transformer stations and over 25,000 transformer substations.
