Enevo and Kraftfeld to build large BESS project in southern Romania

Business Forum
Enevo Group and Kraftfeld have signed a contract for the construction of a battery energy storage system (BESS) with a power of 110 MW and a capacity of 220 MWh, at Drăgăneşti-Olt, in Olt county, Romania.

The project also includes connection to the high-voltage grid. Kraftfeld is the owner of the project, while Enevo Group will act as EPC contractor, responsible for the design, procurement and turnkey construction of the BESS and the associated high-voltage station.

The system will have a nominal discharge power of 110 MW and a capacity of 220 MWh, allowing it to store and deliver electricity according to market signals and the operational needs of the National Energy System. Construction is scheduled to begin in the third quarter of 2026, with commissioning and commercial operation planned for early 2027.

The Drăgăneşti-Olt project adds to a portfolio that now exceeds 1 GWh and includes storage projects under execution or already operational. As the need for grid balancing and flexibility grows alongside the expansion of renewable production capacity, ENEVO Group continues to develop the technical capabilities and experience needed for renewable energy infrastructure projects in Romania and the region.

"Projects of this scale are only possible through solid partnerships, trust and a shared vision of a more sustainable and energy-secure future," said Ben Salm-Reifferscheidt, Managing Director of Kraftfeld.

"Energy storage is no longer optional, but an essential element for building a resilient and decarbonised energy system. We are proud to support Kraftfeld and to contribute to a more stable and flexible electricity grid in Romania," said Eduard Meiloiu, VP Renewables, Enevo Group.
