Signal Iduna is relaunching two insurance products for home and alternative transport

Only 11% of Romanians could financially cope with the costs of repairing or replacing belongings affected by a potential disaster that could impact their home, according to a sociological study conducted by IRES for UNSAR. Despite only 1 in 5 households being insured, insurance companies in Romania paid out nearly RON 4 million in compensation for affected belongings through optional home insurance in 2023, according to data from UNSAR.

Upon purchasing the mandatory home insurance policy (PAD), Romanians can also take out insurance for household goods against disaster risks, with Signal Iduna providing essential financial support in the event of unforeseen natural events that could destroy goods they have acquired over their lifetime. This is optional insurance, complementary to the PAD policy, and includes home assistance. Policyholders thus benefit from coverage in case their belongings are affected by natural disasters such as earthquakes, floods caused by heavy rainfall, snowmelt, or landslides, ensuring that they will not have to pay out of their own pockets for the repair or replacement of affected personal items, up to the insured amount specified in the insurance policy. All of this is available at an affordable cost of RON 20 or 69 annually, depending on the coverage plan selected.

Furthermore, according to a report by the European Commission, Romania continues to be one of the countries that reported among the highest mortality rates in 2023 for road accidents compared to the European Union average.

Thus, while the EU average is 46 road deaths per million inhabitants, in Romania this percentage rises to 81 road deaths per million inhabitants. Additionally, concerning occupants of vehicles (drivers and passengers), within the European Union they accounted for 45% of the total deaths, with the remainder divided among pedestrians, cyclists, and motorcyclists.

Therefore, Signal Iduna supports individuals engaged in taxi services or alternative transport operations by offering insurance for all persons in the vehicle at the time of a traffic accident. Although drivers transporting passengers are usually careful on the road, the risks they face are varied and can cause damage to themselves, their passengers, and their passengers' luggage.

In addition to an insurance policy for travelers and luggage that provides coverage in the event of a road accident in which the transported passenger dies or is left with partial or total disability, and also covers the necessary medical expenses or destroyed luggage, drivers can take out an enhanced optional insurance with a roadside assistance clause for an additional cost of only RON 50. This includes towing to the nearest service station, or a location indicated by the insured and transporting passengers outside the locality.
