JTI invests €300 million in new Romanian factory

Business Forum
JTI announced a €300 million investment to build a new factory in Ștefăneștii de Jos, Ilfov County.

The new factory will cover close to 70,000 sqm and integrate advanced equipment and technologies. "Designed to operate on 100% renewable energy, our future factory will also include expanded waste management capacity and its own water treatment plant," said Klaus-Walter Thul, JTI Romania factory lead.

"This is one of JTI's most important investments in Romania. It reflects our confidence in the country, its infrastructure, and the quality of its workforce," said Gabriella Offeddu, General Manager, JTI Romania, Moldova and Bulgaria. About 1,600 employees currently work for JTI in Romania, including in manufacturing, HQ, sales offices and the Global IT Hub.

In 2025 alone, JTI contributed approximately €1.4 billion to the Romanian state budget through excise duties, VAT, and other taxes. More than 70% of Romania production is exported to around 70 markets worldwide.

The new facility, scheduled for completion in 2027, will replace the current Bucharest production site. A phased transition will ensure smooth transfer of production to the new location.
