Electrified cars, including electric vehicles that can be charged from external electricity sources (BEV and PHEV), as well as mild-hybrid and full hybrid vehicles with electric propulsion without external charging, held a 68% market share in April 2026. This represents the most important segment in the Romanian market, surpassing the share held by petrol and diesel engines.
Fully electric cars held a 6.3% market share, while plug-in hybrid vehicles marked a 9.8% share, up from 5.3% in April 2025.
In 2026, the top three best-selling 100% electric cars were Tesla Model Y with 426 units and a 284% year-on-year increase, BYD Dolphin Surf with 324 units, and Dacia Spring with 239 units.
In the plug-in vehicle segment, the top positions were occupied by BYD Seal U with 321 units, Chery Tiggo 8 with 183 units, and Volkswagen Tiguan with 171 units.
