Cora becomes Carrefour: The first fully integrated hypermarket in Bucharest

Carrefour Romania is officially opening a new hypermarket, rebranded and remodeled, in the Supernova shopping center on Alexandriei 152. Following the integration of the large format Cora stores into the Carrefour universe, the retailer's hypermarket network reaches 57 stores nationwide, one of which is being remodeled and rebranded in Bucharest, with the others to be officially opened soon.

From today, customers can enjoy the complete Carrefour experience when they go shopping. The hypermarket is the first format Carrefour launched on the Romanian market in 2001 and plays a significant role, offering the most varied range of products, addressing all categories of customers. The network expansion is part of the company's omnichannel strategy.

Located within the Supernova shopping center, Alexandria 152, the hypermarket is open from Monday to Sunday, between 08:00 - 22:00. It has a sales area of 6,881 square meters and supports the development of the local community through its 160 jobs.

The new store opens the appetites of Bucharest with fresh produce from local producers and the most representative products from the retailer's portfolio

  • Seasonal vegetables and fruits from the Agricultural Cooperatives of Vărăști, Brezoaele and Fierbinți under the Our Garden label;
  • Bakery products, made in their own laboratories by Carrefour specialists;
  • A rich assortment of organic products for a balanced diet.

Furthermore, customers have access to an extensive range of Romanian wines from the Deschidem Vinul Românesc program, created by Carrefour to support Romanian producers from all wine regions of the country. Wines such as "Zâna Verde Sauvignon Blanc" and "Stih Cabernet Sauvignon" can be discovered by lovers of local flavors in the Wine from Your Region category. Alongside them, wines entrusted only to Carrefour shelves through the Exclusive selection (such as "Vinul Cavalerului Secret White", "Răsărit Busuioacă de Bohotin", "Siel Fetească Neagră") are available, as well as gastronomic wines appreciated by specialists and sought after by connoisseurs, from the Premium range.

In addition, the store also offers Carrefour's own-brand products: affordable (Simpl), medium (Carrefour Classic or Essential) and premium ranges (Drag de România, Filiera Calității Carrefour, Carrefour Bio, Carrefour Selection). For a complete shopping experience, customers can also find (inter)national brand products and brands developed in partnership with 260 Romanian producers on Carrefour shelves.
In addition to products from the Carrefour universe, the store's offer also includes products from the former Cora portfolio, appreciated by customers for their outstanding quality. One example is the traditional butcher's shop where customers can buy freshly sliced pork and beef products from Romanian-origin carcasses. Customers can also choose from a variety of local prepared or smoked products.

As for non-food products, the offer includes items from the world of cooking (household appliances, crockery), hygiene products or products for the home or garden, cosmetics, as well as toys, books and school supplies.
In addition to the established services available in Carrefour hypermarkets (PayPoint, bill payment or vignettes), customers can also benefit from options such as the BT Direct shopping card, the consumer finance division of Banca Transilvania, which gives them 5% cashback on the value of all purchases made by paying in full in-store and online, on Carrefour.ro.

An omnichannel shopping experience

In line with its omnichannel vision, Carrefour is pursuing its mission to become the number one choice for customers by developing its national network of stores in all formats: Hiper, for the complete weekly shopping experience; Express, for the speed and personal character of a convenience store; Market, at the intersection of the first two formats, with a focus on freshness, speed and proximity; and Supeco, the cash & carry discount format, aimed at both individual and corporate customers.

The Act for Good Carrefour universe

As part of the remodeling process, Carrefour extends the benefits of the Act for Good program to the new hyper in Bucharest. Available on the Carrefour app, customers can accumul loyalty points that can be used as currency to benefit from discounts, various experiences and the opportunity to support the community through good deeds.

Carrefour continues to modernize stores across the country, using the benefits of technology to make the shopping experience as easy as possible. Beyond the 100% self checkout checkouts, which feature a simple and intuitive scan and pay system for everyone, customers benefit from the Scan & Pay option in the Carrefour app. With it, they can scan and pay for products as they add them to the shopping cart, making the experience quick and simple.

What's more, from July 25, customers will be able to access products in the physical store not only through the app and the carrefour.ro website, but also through partner platforms BRINGO, Glovo and Tazz. BRINGO, the first Romanian personal shopping platform that makes deliveries from 90 minutes, to 30 or even, in record time, in 15 minutes, offers a universe with multiple options, from which customers can choose how they prefer to take possession of their purchases, with direct home delivery or ready prepared in the hypermarket for personal pickup, through the Click & Collect option.

At the same time, from the Hypermarket section of the Glovo app, customers can select the desired products from the Carrefour Alexandria store, and Glovo will deliver them to the indicated address in less than 60 minutes. Moreover, from the Supermarket section of the Tazz app, customers can select the desired products from the hypermarket, and Tazz will deliver them to the indicated address in less than 60 minutes.

The discounts keep rolling in

The "Minus a Percent" program includes discounts of up to 20% on a wide range of more than 1700 essential products in 45 different categories: from groceries (cold meats, dairy, cheese, frozen foods) as well as basic grocery and grocery products to personal hygiene and home maintenance products. These include assortments from the retailer's own-brand portfolio as well as international and national brands. To make them easy for customers to identify, they will be marked on shelves with the message "Product at reduced price". The program is available in all Carrefour Hyper and Market stores until the end of August, so customers in the new store can enjoy super-price offers and a complete shopping experience.

Caring for the environment and the community

Carrefour is bringing the entire recycling infrastructure for PET, aluminum and glass packaging closer to the people of Bucharest as part of the Guaranteed Return System, the largest selective collection program in the country. The system translates into a mechanism to reward good done out of respect for the environment. For each drink with the "Packaging with Guarantee" logo purchased, customers will pay a deposit of RON 0.50, which they can then recover physically at the cash registers or digitally by scanning the recycling vouchers issued by the collection equipment using the Carrefour app.

Moreover, as a permanent system, customers who bring containers of used oil to the new store will receive rewards, according to a very simple mechanism: for every 4 liters of used oil, Carrefour offers customers 1 liter of fresh oil in exchange.
