Romanian Government collapses following successful no-confidence motion

Business Forum
The Romanian Parliament voted to dismiss the government led by Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan on Tuesday.

The motion of censure, initiated by the PSD, AUR, and PACE—Romania First parties, secured 281 votes in favour and four against, with three votes annulled. The motion had been formally signed by 254 MPs prior to the session.

The collapse of the administration follows a ten-month tenure defined by a complex five-party coalition. Addressing the assembly, outgoing PM Ilie Bolojan, said: "Despite all the difficulties and problems that existed, with four parties plus the Minorities Group, we achieved several things in these ten months. Regardless of whether I am in the bench or the hall, I must thank all the ministers I collaborated with, because these results represent a team effort; that is the truth."

Under Article 110 of the Constitution, the cabinet's dismissal necessitates an immediate transition to form a new executive.

The forthcoming legal milestones include formal consultations between the President and parliamentary parties, the designation of a new Prime Minister-elect, and the presentation of a fresh governing programme. A final parliamentary vote of confidence will be required to ratify the successor administration.
