Foreign tourists spending in Romania at €1.3 billion during 2024

During 2024, the total number of non-resident tourists staying in collective tourist accommodation in Romania was 2.17 million, with their spending totalling RON 6.5 billion (€1.32 billion).

The average spending stood at RON 3,024 (€608) per person, according to data from the National Institute of Statistics (INS).

Business travel accounted for 49.2% of all trips by non-resident tourists, with their expenditure representing 55.7% of total.

Private travel represented 50.8% of all trips by non-resident tourists, with their expenditure representing 44.3% of total expenditure.

Of the total non-residents arriving in Romania last year, 40.4% organised their stay independently, 36.1% organised their stay through a travel agency, 16% opted for other ways of organising their trip (for example, through a trade union), while 7.5% organised their trip both independently and through a travel agency.

The main means of transport used to arrive in Romania in 2024 was by plane, used by 77.7% of the total number of tourists. 

Meanwhile, 14.9% used their own cars, 5.8% used coaches and buses, 0.6% used riverboats, 0.3% used trains and 0.7% used other means of transport.
