EBRD invests in Romanian retailer La Cocoș

The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) has announced a €10 million equity investment in Romanian retail chain La Cocoș. Additional equity funding will be provided by CEECAT Capital and Morphosis Capital to support the retailer's development plans.

Founded in 2014, La Cocoș is discount retailer with three stores located in Ploiești and Bucharest that targets borth B2C and B2B customers.

”This transaction provides us with the financial resources and expertise necessary to rapidly expand our network by a double-digit number of locations over the next four years,” says Iulian Nica, Founder and CEO of La Cocoș.

Tamas Nagy, Co-Head of EBRD Private Equity, added that food retail is one of the most active areas of investment for the bank.

To date, the EBRD has invested over €11 billion in 547 projects across the country.
