The Ministry of Finance noted that the deficit amounted to RON 64.23 billion (€12.91 billion), representing 3.39% of GDP, compared to RON 60.10 billion (€12.08 billion), or 3.41% of GDP, for the first five months of 2024.
Total revenues amounted to RON 256 billion (€51.48 billion), marking a 13.6% year-on-year increase. This growth was driven by both the advance in current revenues—primarily from salary and income tax, social contributions, and excises—and the dynamic of revenues from EU funds.
Total revenues increased by 0.7 percentage points (+0.5 pp for current revenues and +0.2 pp for European funds).
Meanwhile, the consolidated general budget expenditures, totalling RON 320.23 billion (€64.40 billion), rose by 12.2% in nominal terms compared to the same period of the previous year.
Expenditures showed an increase of 0.7 percentage points compared to the same period in 2024, rising from 16.2% of GDP to 16.9% of GDP.
